Standalone exists for 64-bit OSX, the problem is that OEM integration includes shaders and such that are not compiled for 64-bit OSX. This is one reason the version in Maya for OSX is still 32-bit.
32-bit processes cannot address the additional memory a 64-bit process can.

According to Mental Ray Configuration and Platforms site 64bit Mental Ray exists for OS X? So what is the build in Mental Ray for maya on OS X? And how about the stand alone?
If it's 64bit then it can run with more than the mentioned 1.8-2gb from the video?!

Great video. I would love more information how to speed up rendertime like extensive BSP tweak - what the difference is between the 3 BSD types ind 2010 etc.
Where do i find the "Output Window" on OS X? is it the os x debug console or maya->window->console window?
I have alot of problems with the mentalrayGlobals tab, every time i set the Render Verbosity maya resets it back before a render starts, so I can't get the right bsp info out when debugging and find other errors/warnings.
I'm on Maya 2010 on OS X.
I have 10GB ram but the Physical Memory settings keeps switching around. Some times it is at 800mb - other around 7500mb... With 2010 32bit what is the optimum settings with 10gb ram? Does it matter if I set it to more than 1.8-2gb as you said in the video or 3.8-4gb that is the top for an 32bit application on os x (as far as I know :) ) - or 8-9gb since i have 10gb.. :)
Again, great video - have a nice weekend!
